Civic Museum of Riva
Civic Museum of Riva del Garda hosts several art exhibition and works of some of the most famous painter as Hayez
The area of Riva del Garda, in the province of Trento, has always been an especially strategic area for controlling the northern part of the lake and the Sarca Valley.
The Rocca, which for centuries successfully carried out the role of defending the town against the Scaligeri, Visconti and Venetians, now houses the Museo Civico of Riva del Garda.
Various museum sections have been set up within the rooms of the Rocca of Riva (Riva Fortress): a collection of archaeological finds, a picture gallery, a section dedicated to the natural sciences and a small collection of prints and photographs through which one can appreciate the town as it was over the course of the twentieth century, through the Hapsburg domination, World War I and the creation of the Kingdom of Italy.
As for the artistic heritage preserved in the picture gallery, here one may admire works spanning a temporal arc from the fifteenth century up to the present day. Among the most important artists represented are Francesco Hayez, Pietro Ricchi and Vincenzo Vela.
The archaeological section instead offers an extraordinary collection of finds, evidence of life in the Alto Garda in the period running from prehistory to the early Middle Ages. Among the objects on view are statue-stelae from the Copper Age, pile-work from the Bronze Age and finds from the Roman age and the first centuries of the Middle Ages.
